Ibiza, Island Destination December 8th, 2008
Founded in 654 B.C. by Phoenician settlers, Ibiza is a Mediterranean island located approximately 80 kilometers from the eastern coast of Spain. Long known as a party and club destination, Ibiza has historically attracted throngs of tourists during its summer season. In recent years, however, the island has been trying to broaden its appeal to appeal to families, much in the way Las Vegas did in the last decade.
Tourists of all types will find a variety of activities and attractions on the island, and may consider a stay in a 5 star hotel Ibiza to be the key to enjoying their vacation. There are sixty beaches to enjoy, forests, cliffs, and hills to explore. Everything from mall villages and traditional restaurants to beautiful architecture and exclusive shopping are abundant on this island that is practically its own country.
Families may choose to explore the island through train excursions or simply visit attractions such as the smuggler’s cave turned into an aquarium in San Antonio or the water slide park in Playa d’en Bossa. Shopping ranges from exclusive, designer labels to the Hippy Markets that offer handmade clothings, jewellry, and crafts.
Listed among the World Heritage sites, Ibiza offers both environmental riches and key archaeological preserves. With diverse coastal and marine ecosystems, Phoenician-Carthaginian era sites, and military architecture that influenced early Spanish settlements in the Americas, Ibiza offers much more than just their famed club scene.
Ibiza has a long tradition of honoring saints with feast days and fiestas. These celebrations bring together the island’s community in recognition of their shared cultural heritage and offer visitors insight into the island’s rich history as well as a change to join in the festivities and have a good time.
