Stoned in Brisbane September 8th, 2009
Okay, I’ve only skipped stones, but I never knew they had healing properties. While I was on vacation and staying at one of the excellent spa hotels Brisbane is known for, I was offered a Stone massage. I had know idea what that was, I mean, I’m used to two hands manipulating and relaxing all my tensed up muscles. I decided before I accepted the offer. Since I’m an armature history buff, I dug deep into the stone age.
I found that the Hominids, way back oh, let’s say 250 million years ago, applied a warm earthen clay and stones in their medicines. In Asia, about 5000 years ago, the use of heated stones was used to improve the functioning of the organs and instill the balance of Yin and the Yang of the body. In India, about 7000 years ago, stones were heated in warm aromatic oils in ritual healing ceremonies. The native Americans were known, in ancient times, to use hot stones as part of a massage treatment for their sweat lodge ceremonies. They believe that the stones have souls, so when they used them for certain healing, they allowed the recipient to remember lost truth. The Celtic, Nordic and the Russians used the stones as the original radiators and put the stones in bed to help women in labour and to also reduce the pain of the menstrual cycle. What I found more interesting is they used cold stones to slow the bleeding caused after child birth. Europe’s ancient spas were base on healing with hydrotherapy and thermos therapy. Stones were used as a balancing tool and so the hot stones penetrated with heat sensation that usually missed due to the cold winters. Now, rediscovered in the United States, and re-awakened as a modality of stone therapy.
So, after all my research, the next day I went and had a stone therapy massage, and I most definitely could feel the healing and relaxation deeper and I had a since the stones history was also being released into my soul.
