Cape Town September 9th, 2009
Cape Town is a city situated on a peninsula off the west tip of the tip of Africa which in and of itself is a peninsula. Here the cold waters of the southern Atlantic and the southern Pacific meet. Settled by Dutch Huguenots several hundred years ago there are memorials and museums that keep that history alive for visitors to learn and understand. When we were here it was wet and windy. In this location on the glob weather is very unpredictable and changes very quickly. The ocean was very rough the days we were here crashing in big waves on the rocky coast. From our five star Cape Town hotels we could hear the surf crashing on the beaches. Our stay was too short but I suppose all stays are too short and on the other hand too ling too as I can never get back home fast enough. Most of the time we were there the weather was fairly fowl, we understand that was pretty much the case this time of year so it was no surprise. We just hoped to get luckier on the weather side to have at least one day of nice weather and sun. All in all the time spent there was worth it. The drama of seeing the furry of the ocean as winter approached gave a new perspective to the power of the ocean. It seemed so much more power full down here. We were able to find plenty to do shopping, visiting historic sites, eating at local eateries and enjoying every minute of the time there. Cape Town is a beautiful place and I really would like to visit when the weather is more agreeable however the very very long flight will have to be considered before another trip.
