Setting up Your Own Garage, and Fixing Your Own Car

Deciding to take on some of your own automotive repair at home may be a daunting thought to most people.  Before that can even take place, there is the idea that you will need a garage full of the necessary tools and equipment.  But just beginning with a simple set of tools will get you started and when you find a new tool that you need for a particular job you can buy it then.  With the economy today, many people are choosing to do it themselves more often.

It has always been a tremendous feat when you can find a truly honest and fair priced car mechanic, so doing it yourself can be easier on the pocket book, and you will be certain of the work that has been done, because you yourself did it!  This is one of the best ways to keep your car running in top form.  The more you discover about your vehicle, well…the more you know, you will be aware of the workings and the state of your car’s condition at all times.  You will become more in tune with your own vehicle, and with the help of small engine repair manuals, this is not very difficult to do.

This is also something that is rewarding for many people, as for some they may be learning something new and discovering how satisfying it is to be more independent.  Along with the car and motorcycle manuals available, there are many website chat blogs, wherein professional mechanics will answer any questions that may arise during the process.  And even if you begin at the very beginning, without many tools or equipment, you will find that over time, a tool bought for a special repair-here and there-will add up until you have a vast array of the necessary supplies.  You will have your own small garage and have the ability to most of those car repairs in the comfort of your own home.

Project Superfly

If you have read the July, 09 issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords (MM&FF) , you know Superfly was part of a 1200-plus mile tire test with Nitto’s new NT05 Ultra-High Performance tire. Even though the trip from NJ to FL went off without a hitch, Superfly also was not so eager to settle into the Florida lifestyle.

Part two of the tire and wheel package test found the MM&FF staff getting ready to take Superfly autocrossing. Unfortunately in the days leading up to the event the rear swaybar decided it had had enough and broke into two pieces. Not a major catastrophe but not the problem you want three days before an autocross car tires event.

Although a call to MPS netted a new swaybar, they did not receive it in time to have it installed for the event. In an attempt to salvage the day at the autocross the decision was made to weld the bar back together in the hope that it would last the duration of the event. After a little grinding and some test fitting, the swaybar was back together working good as new.

They all watched as Editorial Director, Jim Campisano carved his way through the cones putting both Superfly and the Nitto NT05s to the test, and both made it through with flying colors. The tires held up great all day and had some awesome grip, and Superfly never missed a beat! Ironically, two days later the welds on the swaybar gave up as Campi made the turn out of his driveway. Time for the new swaybar auto tires.

Truck Bed Covers Offer Long Term Protection

When buying a truck, it is essential to see that truck as a long term investment. You need to provide it with everything it needs to stay up and running for the long term. Of course, when you do this you will want to make most of your focus on truck maintenance, since that is what will keep the engine and function of the vehicle at the top level. Yet, there is much more to look for than just that.

For example, you may want to consider adding truck bed covers to the trucks you have. This will provide you with some security, depending on the type you buy, and it also adds a bit more protection to your truck. That is going to provide you with long term stability and give you more value from the vehicle in the long term.

In addition to this, consider how you will use the truck today and every day. Will it help to protect the inside of the truck if you have a Jobox installed? It may, especially if you have a great deal of tools to have sorted and organized. Of course, a high quality truck bed liner is a no questions asked need, too, for anyone no matter what type of truck you have.

Hard to Find Hot Rod Accessories Found at Hot Rod Hank’s

One of my favorite things to do is fix up old cars and trucks and turn them into hot rods. But finding parts can be difficult. I need hot rod tires and luckily there is a website that has them. Hotrodhanks.com has all of the hard to find hot rod accessories that you could ever need. And I know first hand because I couldn’t find much of anything that I needed until I found this site.

Hank even has very hard to find things like polish for hot rod wheels. I am painting my classic pickup truck a vibrant red and I want it to look perfect when I enter it in its first car show. I don’t think I would have been able to finish on time or maybe even ever without this site. I recommend it to car enthusiasts everywhere.

Son Makes Money from Custom Wheel Upgrade

My son is very much into fixing his car up and entering it in car contests. He loves to spend his money on things like 20 inch rim and paint jobs. He works quite a lot and saves his money so he can afford this stuff.

He has made several purchases and then upgraded later. He bought rims cheap and then upgraded to custom wheel. After that he won his first show. I talked to him about saving some of that money for college but he was way ahead of me. The difference between what he originally bought and what he upgraded to was minimal and in some cases he actually made a little money.

I guess that the lessons he is learning are preparing him for life after he’s 18. I just never thought a hobby like fixing up a car could be so beneficial.
